Extraction of a floor plan from a points cloud: some metrological considerations

The design of evacuation plans for safety purposes is based on the graphical synthesis and visualization data derived from high-performance measurement systems. post-processing requires some suitable procedures including many steps, to obtain information needed. These are related global use system, real operating conditions, complexity building, simplifying hypotheses, management. As a preliminary step, this work outlines procedure extracting floor plan points cloud acquired by means laser scanner. test case baroque cathedral, being large structure presenting elements irregular geometry. Some critical passages have been examined, similar widths but different characteristics i.e., flat regular geometries walls, in cases, statues, columns adornments, others. management plays key-role correct interpretation outcomes, having great impact results reliability. obtained estimated variability passage width order few tenth centimeters.
